UVic Sorority

UVic Interest Group

In February, 2010, the UVSS held a referendum in which the student body chose to revoke a policy banning Greek Letter Organizations (GLOs) on campus. Soon after this referendum, a Fraternity was established.  After hearing about this, we decided to start up a sorority; however, we soon learned that the process we must go through is a lot different than that which the Fraternity followed.

We immediately took to research and discovered the NPC and how it works.  We spent countless hours finding out information for the application, and met with the VP of Student Affairs to discuss the idea.  He asked us to receive a letter of support from the UVSS to verify that the students of UVic do, in fact, want a Greek System on campus.

Months past before we were able to attend a Board Meeting. On June 14th, we attended the meeting and received a letter of "non-opposition."  The VP of Student Affairs was prepared to write our letter until a few students voiced their concerns about allowing GLOs to establish on campus.  It is these students who are currently standing in the way of our right to have such a group.

We are not asking for "support," we are not asking for housing, or to represent the student body, or anything close to that; all we want is the "approval to form on campus."

This is what we will be petitioning for around campus this fall, and we hope this website helps us in educating those who have been misinformed by those petitioning against us.
